Stress Management

Stress Management

Stress Management is the capability to bring your mind, physical body and spirit under control when confronted with any stressful situation, whether perceived or real.

These are the three forms of Stress:

Emotional Stress
Personal relationships, work, finances, traffic, too much to do and not enough time. These are all different forms of emotional stress.

Chemical Stress
Whatever you eat and drink, medications (prescribed and over-the-counter), cigarettes, the air you breathe, and household cleaning products are just some types of chemical stress.

Physical Stress
Posture, car accidents, injuries, and excessive standing or sitting are all forms of physical stress. The number one physical stress that we all suffer from is gravity.  Gravity pushes straight down on our body at a rate of 14.7
pounds per square inch.  It is like placing a bowling ball on every inch of your body.

Here are some ways to manage your stress:

Start by making improvements to each part of your life that is stressing you out.  For example if traffic stresses you out, leave earlier in order to give yourself extra time to get to the places where you need to be. This way even if you do get stuck in traffic, you don’t need to stress because you’ll still be on time. If you are having trouble in your personal relationships, start taking the steps to improve them. Quitting smoking is a great way to decrease chemical stress and greatly improve your health. If you have poor posture, get yourself involved in a program that will correct it (like chiropractic and physical therapy). These changes may not happen over night, but by being proactive about the situation you are taking control. This is empowering and makes you feel good.
