Importance Of Water

Water is one of the two most important and primary fuels for your body, the other being oxygen. To be properly hydrated, a person must drink one ounce of water per half your body weight. So if you weigh 200 pounds you will need to drink 100 ounces of water per day, whereas someone weighing only 100 pounds would have to drink 50 ounces of water per day.

Everything in your body requires water, including:

  • Muscles
  • Joints
  • Cartilage
  • Discs
  • Digestive system
  • Nervous system
  • YOUR BRAIN!!!

When you don’t drink enough water and your body becomes dehydrated, your brain will begin to ration the water from the rest of your body. First, it will begin to take the water from your soft tissues (muscles, joints and cartilage), then the brain will take water from your digestive system, before finally seizing the water from your nervous system.

When your brain goes through this rationing process your muscles become tight and restricted. Your discs and cartilage become brittle, often cracking and tearing/herniating. So DRINK YOUR WATER!!
